Diabetes and Fire Prevention

Nov012012

Diabetes has affected my family, as so many other families.  My family members with diabetes are taking an active role in their care and management.  I, for one am very proud of them.  My niece below gave me permission to show this photo of her.  Here she is, a Type 1 Diabetic, motivated and active in her care, and continually promoting ways to bring awareness and hope to Diabetes.  Way to go girl!  But, you don’t have to do a triathalon, just take baby steps……..

Way to go, Carolyn

Provence! Why French Women Don’t Get Fat

Oct102012

I’m inviting you to explore Provence, France with me in an unusual way. I’m wondering if you know why French women don’t get fat?  Remember with weight management, there’s no judging, just exploring and finding tricks and treats to make it work.  This past weekend I took a short, but satisfying, road trip to France.  While taking pictures and enjoying the food and shopping, I was reminded by my “American-French” girlfriend, Rebecca, about the book and cd, “French Women Don’t Get Fat”.  Waaalllllaaaaaa!  I actually keep a copy of it in my office, so if you want to borrow it, just click reply to the blog and I’ll get it to you.  You can explore yourself.  If you don’t want to read the book or listen to the cd, then view and read on ahead while I share some photos and five things to know about the French that keeps them thin and fit …………………

Harvest -Waste Not, Want Not

Sep162012

It is predicted that by the year 2045, the earth’s population will likely increase from 7 to 9 billion people.  Some experts also predict that the global food production may need to double, while accounting for shifting food patterns, climate change and only so much land and water to go around.  As we head into this year’s harvest, we are reminded that higher yields and more efficient farming are always crucial. But how can we feed the world when the population and food production are increasing at such a rapid rate? ……..

Healthy Brownie Recipe? You betcha!

Aug252012

Can healthy and brownie be in the same sentence?  Recently a friend told me about Black Bean Brownies and I thought I would share the recipe because they are soooooo gooooooood and healthy too!  Their black color and rich, gooey, smooth texture make them a fun and appropriate Halloween treat.  And the added bean fiber makes them a healthy after school treat.  I hope you like them …………………… View the post

Can easyDinner.es be easyDinner.us?

Jun212012

I love fire!  And, I love fireworks!   And in Barcelona, this week is the Festival of Sant Joan.  And, it’s all about fire, “He who lights the fire for Sant Joan will not burn all year”.  The Sant Joan Festival is in celebration of the solstice, the first day of summer!  Summer in Espanol is “Verano”.  It’s when the  “livin is easy”.

If you are like me, I want to be outside in the summer.  I want to be on my terrace or front porch, in the sun, going for a walk, and doing fun activities with friends and family.  The last place I want to be is in a hot and humid kitchen, especially since I don’t have air conditioning here in Spain!  I want to get in and out, enjoy a planned, but simple meal, and be out the door in no time.  If this appeals to you also, let me share something wonderful with you…….

Green Eggs and Ham

May032012

Before the spring ends, I want to pay homage to the “egg”.  The perfect food.  It’s the perfect weight management food also.  When’s the last time you played in an egg toss game?  Remember when eggs got a bad rap a few years ago?  Things are different now and even Dr. Oz is telling us to eat them, and in quantity……..

Last Thursday’s Event – Savoring Words Barcelona!

Apr022012

Perhaps you were out and about last Thursday evening on March 29th, protesting and manifesting in Spain’s general strike?  Or, maybe you decided to stay in and shelter yourself from the storm?  Some of us, rather brave and courageous women attended the first ever “Savoring Words Barcelona” which was held at the beautiful Barcelona Well Woman Clinic.

The seasonal book club/dinner club event featured Julie and Julia: My Year of Cooking Dangerously.   Along with serving a French menu of Beef Bourguignon, Spring peas, a Chevre Salad, baguettes of French bread and French wine and Creme Brulee; we shared and discussed the book and/or movie, watched demonstrations of recipes, and learned more about nutrition. You can view some pictures from this great event to get a better idea of how much fun it truly was, despite the outside turmoil….

What do you know about your nutrition?

Mar012012

Everybody seems to worry about their nutrition because there is so much conflicting information out there.  How can you decipher truthful, important, and up to date nutrition from the hearsay, word of mouth, or belief system of someone you are not sure you can trust?  Sometimes you just want to hear you ARE doing the right thing and sometimes you have a major issue and it is quite scary.  I am hear to build your confidence!!
