Harvest -Waste Not, Want Not

Sep162012

It is predicted that by the year 2045, the earth’s population will likely increase from 7 to 9 billion people.  Some experts also predict that the global food production may need to double, while accounting for shifting food patterns, climate change and only so much land and water to go around.  As we head into this year’s harvest, we are reminded that higher yields and more efficient farming are always crucial. But how can we feed the world when the population and food production are increasing at such a rapid rate? ……..

Body of Wisdom is celebrating a 7th anniversary this fall.  The “7 year itch” has brought on a few fun happenings.  First, Yoga at the Body of Wisdom studio in Cherokee is being offered three times a week this fall: Mondays at 6 pm, Wednesdays at 12 noon, and Thursdays at 9 am.  You may sign up and join in at anytime.

Another class at BW also being offered is Zumba-Yoga  on Tuesdays at 6 pm beginning September 11th for 12 weeks.  This class is a combination of Yoga warm ups and cool down, with a Latin dancing twist in between!  It’s a great workout and a chance to dance into good health.  Hurry and sign up!

In Barcelona, the book club/dinner club, Savoring Words Barcelona, will be held on Tuesday, October 16th.  To also commemorate the “7 year itch” , BW is bringing back to life  – “Eat, Pray, Love” by Elizabeth Gilbert.  This was also the very first book club/ dinner club in Cherokee, and it’s such a great read and was such a success that we want to do it again, only this time in Spain!  For details and to sign up, check out the events calendar here or on facebook.

Healthy Brownie Recipe? You betcha!

Aug252012

Green Eggs and Ham

May032012

Before the spring ends, I want to pay homage to the “egg”.  The perfect food.  It’s the perfect weight management food also.  When’s the last time you played in an egg toss game?  Remember when eggs got a bad rap a few years ago?  Things are different now and even Dr. Oz is telling us to eat them, and in quantity……..

Feb252012

In Barcelona, there is a great food tradition going on at this time of year.  It involves the smell of outdoor wood burning fires!  Ahhhh…the sweet smell of food grilling over an open flame.  I’m in heaven!  Most of you know me as the “pyromaniac” on our farm.  I take my hats off to the Larrabee fire department, my husband, family and friends for understanding this pleasurable disorder of mine.  My husband has even suffered for it, burning his hairy chest and all, as I recall on a crisp sunny, but snow covered March weekend…memories.  But, let’s get back to the great tradition of cooking and eating “Calcots”!

What are they, you ask?…. Continue reading

Dec092011

Barcelona is beginning to look a lot like Christmas, everywhere I go.  There are gorgeous lights and special Christmas markets!

One of these outdoor markets in particular is in front of the famous Cathedral, and has many stalls that include the crapper or caganer, as it’s known in Catalan. Don’t be surprised if we hand you one of these for Xmas………… Continue reading
