Provence! Why French Women Don’t Get Fat

Oct102012

I’m inviting you to explore Provence, France with me in an unusual way. I’m wondering if you know why French women don’t get fat?  Remember with weight management, there’s no judging, just exploring and finding tricks and treats to make it work.  This past weekend I took a short, but satisfying, road trip to France.  While taking pictures and enjoying the food and shopping, I was reminded by my “American-French” girlfriend, Rebecca, about the book and cd, “French Women Don’t Get Fat”.  Waaalllllaaaaaa!  I actually keep a copy of it in my office, so if you want to borrow it, just click reply to the blog and I’ll get it to you.  You can explore yourself.  If you don’t want to read the book or listen to the cd, then view and read on ahead while I share some photos and five things to know about the French that keeps them thin and fit …………………

Pioneer Women Make Pink Soup And Put Together Puzzles

Jul312012

Summer on the farm in Iowa can provoke a laid back, easy living feeling, especially when the temperatures get up to 100 degrees.  That’s right, 100 degrees!  Some days it gets so hot that you don’t feel like cooking or working on projects when you get home from work or on weekends.  All you want to do is think about how it can’t possibly be 100 degrees again for the 8th day in a row………

Reserve your place at the table in Barcelona for Wednesday, May 23, 2012 from 6-9 pm!  The book is Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese.

This event is for you –  if you want to read a good book, but don’t want to join and commit to a regular monthly book club.  Yet, you would like to share in a discussion of the book with other women over a sit down meal related to the subject of the book.   This would be a great gift, or a perfect time to ask your mother, daughter, sister, or friend, for instance,  to join you in sharing this evening together.  If you are interested, then here’s what to do.Follow these instructions:1) If you are interested in reading this book and participating in the actual event, then you must sign up ahead of time to attend, space is limited;2) Immediately reserve your place at the table by emailing Mary at bodyofwisdom@gmail.com

3) Next, you read and finish the book before you come to the event on Thursday, May 23rd at 6 pm, with your book in hand to 124 E. Main St., Cherokee, IA

4) When you arrive,  you can then make your payment of $40.00/person.

Body of Wisdom promises you will be surprised and delighted with an interesting book conversation and a beautiful meal presented by Mary.  The event will also include some other related activities. In other words, all you need to do is read the designated book, Cutting for Stone, and then just show up!   Space is limited and cancellations must be made 48 hours ahead of time to allow for any wait list or change of menu

The story line is about Marion and Shiva Stone who are twin brothers born of a secret union between a beautiful Indian nun and a brash British surgeon.  Bound together by a connection and a shared fascination with medicine, the twins come of age as Ethiopia hovers on the brink of revolution.  This is an unforgettable story of love and betrayal, medicine and ordinary miracles – and two brothers whose fates are forever intertwined.

Last Thursday’s Event – Savoring Words Barcelona!

Apr022012

Perhaps you were out and about last Thursday evening on March 29th, protesting and manifesting in Spain’s general strike?  Or, maybe you decided to stay in and shelter yourself from the storm?  Some of us, rather brave and courageous women attended the first ever “Savoring Words Barcelona” which was held at the beautiful Barcelona Well Woman Clinic.

The seasonal book club/dinner club event featured Julie and Julia: My Year of Cooking Dangerously.   Along with serving a French menu of Beef Bourguignon, Spring peas, a Chevre Salad, baguettes of French bread and French wine and Creme Brulee; we shared and discussed the book and/or movie, watched demonstrations of recipes, and learned more about nutrition. You can view some pictures from this great event to get a better idea of how much fun it truly was, despite the outside turmoil….

What are they, you ask?…. Continue reading
